I’ve never thought that placing an ordinary thing among the others would be so difficult, meaning that every time you hear about a ball for example, in your head are instantly establishing some connections: you’ve either played with it one day, saw it on TV or simply heard someone talking about it. Well guess what, I’m twenty, but a table tennis table is by far a word lost somewhere in the corners of my mind.

As far as I remember I’ve never watched a ping pong match in my life, honestly, though I’m not very proud of it, as I always thought it was the most childish game to play. Instead, I do remember some of my friends having said that they loved ping pong and that it was quiet a stimulating game. Hmm…Is it? However, I’m not going to stay here and talk about their life experience with ping pong but mine. Yep, mine because even though I’ve never held a paddle in my life I’m sure that, like any other ordinary thing this table tennis table does have its own story. I bet each of you saw at least once Enrique Iglesias’ video, Do you know, also called The ping pong song. Well that’s the only place where my mind can find unmistakably a ping pong table and yet, what makes it so special to me is not the popularity of the video, but the fact that the sound produced at the impact of the ball with the table gave quiet a special effect to this song. Who could ever think to make out of this stupid object, which has nothing to do with music, a tool for sound improvement? I totally loved it. It was the first time I could go deeper, and see that the little ball was not only meant to hit the table and the table in return to respond and throw it in the destined direction. Here you can see them tasting the music, vibrating, communicating with one another and participating at the miraculous act of creation. Now the table and the ball are not a table and a ball anymore because they got a living. They got life inside of the music. They finally got a place out of the ordinary.

So, however hard it might sound at the beginning, everything, even this table tennis table, can be given a special place because it really is a pity to create our living surrounded by boring, unnoticeable things when we can so simply put some “color” on them and make them different.
